Power Forward
Zach Auguste, Notre Dame (Midwest Region)
One of the most unlikely heroes, Auguste absolutely earned his spot onto this team after a stellar weekend, even if it almost turned sour very quickly. In the opening round, the Fighting Irish were battling for their tournament lives against a feisty Northeastern squad, it wasn’t Grant or Pat Connaughton who saved them, but Auguste. Pouring in a game-high 25 points, it was the junior forward who saved the day and kept the Irish fighting another day.
On Saturday, he was tasked with guarding the Big East’s top rebounder in Kameron Woods, he more than held his own, pulling down 13 rebounds tying his previous high for the season. Nearly remembered for his huge gaffe at the end of regulation that gave Butler a chance to win the game, Auguste was saved by Connaughton, who swatted away the potential game-winner.
With a Shockers squad that is undersized, Auguste is set up to have another big impact game and could be a potential key piece going forward for the Irish.
Honorable Mentions: Bobby Portis, Arkansas (West Region), Seth Tuttle, Northern Iowa (East Region), Kyle Wiltjer, Gonzaga (South Region)
