Even after securing the commitments of two five-star forwards, the Kansas Jayhawks remain in the hunt to get their third. Bill Self is a master recruiter that effortlessly brings in the top talent of each recruiting class year in and year out, and getting Maker would be another feather in his cap.
However, will that be the best move for Maker? Going to Kansas would give more depth to an already talented Jayhawks team, but what can they provide to Maker other than a bigger platform?
Self can players to the NBA with the best of them, but can he guarantee Maker ample opportunities for him to display his talent? These are the questions that Maker should have when considering going to Lawrence.
Maker shares a similar skill set to Carlton Bragg, who can light things up offensively from the post and the perimeter. Having two skilled big men like that can be blessing because of the multiple options it can give a team, but it can also be a curse because there is only one player who can shoot the ball.
If Maker is a half-year rental like he is projected to be before moving on to the NBA, he may want to consider going to a team where he will have enough touches to show what he can do. If he is considering staying through to the next year and Bragg ends up leaving, clearing the way for Maker to carry the load in 2016, Kansas is as good an option as any.
