Jahlil Okafor? What Are The Philadelphia 76ers Trying To Do?

While you were watching the NBA Draft, you just knew you were going to see something ridiculous, you were just unsure what it was going to be and how early it was going to happen.

Minnesota drafted Karl-Anthony Towns with their top pick like they were supposed to.

But when the Lakers did not go chalk and selected D’Angelo Russell, that is when the games began.

The Philadelphia 76ers were in need of a player at any position except power forward and center.

Talks were that in the event Jahlil Okafor slid passed the Lakers pick at No.2 because of  D’Angelo Russell, the Sixers would select Emmanuel Mudiay leaving Okafor for the New York Knicks.

That is not what happened at all! What happened is easily the biggest head scratcher of the draft.

The 76ers drafted Jahlil Okafor and did not take Mudiay. That is not where the head scratching comes from because Philly did take the best player on the board.

The head scratching comes in when you factor in that the Sixers drafted Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel to play in the block over the last two drafts.

So what exactly is the plan that the Sixers are trying to follow. They just continue to stockpile talent with no clear direction. Okafor, Embiid, and Noel will be able to play together with any kind of chemistry because they occupy the same area.

The pick simply did not make any sense. If a team needs a young big they could call Philadelphia, or they could wait till one of those big men became a free agent and they wouldn’t have to give the Sixers anything for the player.

Bottom line is that all hoop fans are scratching their heads right now trying to make sense of Sam Hinkie and his process.

The process only makes sense to one person and it is Sam!
