North Carolina Tar Heels +850/85-1 – North Carolina has the same odds as Maryland in the eyes of Vegas and could easily be the preseason No.1 going into nonconference play.

Experts see the Tar Heels as a favorite to win the NCAA crown for much of the same reasons why Maryland is seen as a contender.

The Tar Heels are returning a lot of experienced players. They are led by one of the best point guards in the country in Marcus Paige, and will have one of the best starting frontcourts in the land with Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks manning the blocks.

Roy Willams won his last two championships in 2005 & 2009. So the wiseguys probably feel that he is due or even overdue for another serious run at the title.

UNC is going to be a motivated team in 2015-16 and would be well worth dropping a few dollars on if you felt amused enough to do so.

They are going to have a bunker mentality from opening day because they are going to shield themselves as much as possible from the questions about the possible NCAA sanctions that might be levied on their program.

The best way to deflect the noise is to win.

Maryland Terrapins +850/85-1 – Everybody is bullish on the Mark Turgeon’s Terrapins for the 2015-16 season and they should be. They return leading scorer Melo Trimble and versatile forward Jake Layman.

The Terps’ will have the services of Robert Carter, who will serve as a stretch forward for their squad after transferring to the school from Georgia Tech.

Rasheed Sulaimon also transferred to Maryland from Duke and is going to be a huge boost to the Terps’ backcourt.

Throw in the addition of Diamond Stone, who is arguably the best freshman big man in the country, and you can clearly see why Maryland is seen as an early frontrunner to take it all.

The talent and depth that the Terrapins are returning to the floor is definitely strong enough to get Maryland a one or two seed come tournament time.

They should be a tough teams to beat in March, and really do have a strong chance of winning there first National Championship since 2002.
