Big 12 Basketball: Big XII Preseason Team Power Rankings
There’s a close acquaintance in my life who has basically lived off of Rogers Hornsby’s famous quote that goes a little something like this: “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
I’ve always told him that there’s a quote that should be even more famous. It’s said by me, and only me, and it goes like this: “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I watch even more basketball than I do baseball.”
And guess what? The NBA is already under way, and now, college basketball is finally here. I’m ready for more Saturday’s where I’m glued to the couch watching an endless array of premier conference matchups. I’m ready for more Melo Trimble crossovers.
I’m ready for more awkward moments for the always personable Nigel Hayes.
I’m ready for Demetrius Jackson to dunk on other guys that are a foot taller than he is.
I’m also ready for a whole new batch of impact freshman. And for Grayson Allen to become the most hated player in college basketball (it’s inevitable). And for everyone to call Gonzaga and Wichita State overrated all year (I’m not actually ready for this). I’m ready for some college basketball.

The most compelling conference in college basketball the past few years has been the Big 12. Sure, maybe the ACC or Big 10 was better at the top, but you would be hard-pressed to find a conference that was better 1-10 than Big 12 Basketbal.
This year, they finally appear to have some elite teams, with Kansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa State at the top of the conference. Although, in reality, you could put together a compelling argument for West Virginia, Texas, or Baylor to win the thing as well. The bottom got a bit weaker, but that’s a small price to pay for the Big 12 maaaaaaybe finally getting a non-Kansas team to the Final Four this year.
Without further to do, here’s the preseason power rankings for the Big 12.
