7. Melo Trimble – Maryland Terrapins

The Maryland Terrapins have been highly regarded all season long because of the loaded roster they would be bringing to the floor and the leadership of Melo Trimble this season.

Maryland has stayed in the Top 10 all season and are currently the No. 4 team in the country with a 10-1 record.

Because of this, Trimble is going to be in the running for the Wooden Award for the foreseeable future.

The sophomore point guard is averaging 15.0 points and 5.7 assists this season for Mark Turgeon’s team and is a big reason why they have been able to maintain the perception that Maryland is one the favorites to win the championship this season.

The thing that you have to love about Melo Trimble is that he showed up when it mattered most this season.

The time it mattered the most was in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge when the Maryland Terrapins faced the North Carolina Tar Heels and Trimble went head-up with UNC point guard Marcus Paige.

Paige and Trimble both showed up in the contest with Marcus Paige 20 points and five assists and Trimble bringing 23 points and 12 assists in a losing effort.

Despite the fact that the Tar Heels lost the game, Trimble playing as well as he did against one of the top players in the country in one of the top games of the Terrapins non-conference schedule.

Melo Trimble is going to end up being in the running for “Player of the Year” if the Terrapins can figure out a way to win the Big Ten crown this season with a powerful Michigan State team looking like they will be tough to beat out.

Maryland looks like they can get it done this year though, and if they do Melo Trimble will be highly considered for the Wooden Award.
