SEC Basketball: 2016 SEC Basketball Schedule and Weekly Key Game Breakdown

The Southeastern Conference, SEC for short, released it’s 2016 SEC Basketball Schedule which is going to start on January 2, 2016.

The hoop competition in the SEC has not been up to the level of the football competition, however this upcoming SEC Basketball season promises to be close to the football standard and pretty exciting.
There is a solid influx of freshman talent coming in, new head coaches to make the conference storylines very intriguing, and rivalries that are going to reach a whole new level because of the new influx of coaches.
Ben Howland now has the reigns at Mississippi State. Rick Barnes runs the show at Tennessee. Avery Johnson brings his NBA experience to Alabama, and Michael White takes over at Florida for the departed Billy Donovan.
The SEC also is going to boast two of the top freshman in the nation with LSU’s Ben Simmons being considered the top freshman in the nation, and Kentucky’s Skal Labissiere close behind at No. 2 in the land.
According to ESPN.com, SEC Basketball owns three teams who’s recruiting classes rank in the Top 10 nationally.
Kentucky comes in with the No.2 recruiting class, followed by LSU who has the No. 3 ranked recruiting class, and Texas A&M with the No.6 ranked recruiting class.
Everyone knows the story that was told in the 2015 SEC season.
The Kentucky Wildcats “platoon system” dodged a couple of close calls during their conference schedule, went undefeated in conference play, and won the SEC Tournament.

Of course, Kentucky is going to be favored to take the conference crown again. But the gap is closing.
LSU, Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M may be able to close the gap a little bit on the Wildcats, but that remains to be seen.

The thing about each week is that it is going to start on a Saturday and end on the following Wednesday or Thursday since the first day of the SEC Basketball schedule is on a Saturday.
We know that most interest when it comes to the SEC is on the gridiron watching the football teams beat each other down each week.
But this SEC season is going to be exciting. and there are plenty of matchups that will be worth your while.
