Now that the Kansas basketball has clinched at least a share of their 12th straight conference title, we take a look at which of those 12 teams was the best.

The Kansas Jayhawks clinched at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title on Saturday, making this the 12th straight time they have brought home that honor, leaving them just one shy of UCLA’s record of 13.

12 years. That’s a long time. Here’s a list of everything that has happened between 2004, the last time the Jayhawks didn’t win the conference title, and now:

  1. George W. Bush was re-elected as president of the United States.
  2. Lebron James was elected to his first NBA all-star game.
  3. I graduated from fifth grade, and moved onto middle school, where the big kids went to school, and even had my own locker.
  4. Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in an NBA game.
  5. Kobe Bryant won his fourth NBA title.
  6. Crocs became cool, then uncool, then cool again.
  7. Barack Obama was elected as president of the United States.
  8. I missed three straight free throws with an opportunity to win the game in an intensely competitive middle school basketball game (this still haunts me).
  9. I graduated from middle school.
  10. Kobe Bryant won his fifth NBA championship.
  11. I learned to drive.
  12. Barack Obama was re-elected as president of the United States.
  13. I graduated from high school.
  14. The Chicago Cubs became good again.

Does it seem like a long time now? Sure does to me. And that speaks towards how remarkable this streak really is. Think of all the great Big 12 players that never won a conference title outright: Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, DJ Augustin, Michael Beasley, Blake Griffin, John Lucas, Tristan Thompson, Avery Bradley, Buddy Hield… I could go on for days, really.

Doing anything 12 straight times is incredible. It’s even more incredible when it’s winning the regular season of something. So, I decided to power rank those 12 teams. It’s not necessarily about which conference title was most impressive, but rather, if they all faced head to head, who would come out on top?

Let’s dig in!
