North Carolina and Duke typically run ACC basketball, but there are those outside of these two teams who have become forgotten.

The ACC is the most dominant conference in college basketball.

There are legendary coaches such as Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Valvano, Gary Williams and Roy Williams who have commanded ACC teams into battle season after season. The best up and coming coaches, Tony Bennett, Mike Brey and Buzz Williams, also lead teams in the conference.

The ACC has witnessed possibly the best player of all time in Michael Jordan.

Since 2003, the ACC has had at least one team in the top five of attendance in all of college basketball.

Alright, so you get it, the ACC is the best.

With so many good players and coaches, they have had stellar teams since the conference was founded.

This slideshow will break down the 20 best ACC teams of all-time, including those who just slightly missed the cut.

The teams are ranked by three categories: 1) Individual talent, 2) Regular season results and 3) Post-season results.

The reason for individual talent is a player like Michael Jordan. He played three years at UNC, winning only one championship. Clearly these three years, the team was good, but just quite didn’t have enough to win a title. However, Jordan elevates them because of his greatness.

Regular season results matter because a team with a great record may have made the tournament but an opposing team just happened to have their number that particular day.

Postseason outcomes matter (obviously) because a team may have a mediocre regular season, squeak into the NCAA Tournament, and then turn their National Championship win into a massive upset (no hints here).

In this top 20, not every team currently in the ACC is listed. You have the Duke and UNC’s of the world who are listed multiple times. Luckily both of these powerhouses have extremely high expectations, otherwise they could make up the entire top 20.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the greatest ACC basketball teams of all time.
