9. Allonzo Trier (Arizona)

Many assumed that Arizona freshman standout Allonzo Trier would leave the Wildcats after just one season and make his way to the NBA. We assumed that he would at least test the waters, particularly with the NCAA’s new early-entry rule that allows a player to enter the draft three times with no repercussions.

Not only did he choose to stay at Arizona for his sophomore season, he chose to forego the NBA Draft process altogether.

Trier, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound shooting guard, averaged 14.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game as a freshman. He shot 46.6 percent from the floor and connected on 36.4 percent of his three-point attempts. He also hit nearly 80 percent of his free-throws.

Trier averaged the third most points per game on an Arizona team that won 25 games last season. With leading scorers Ryan Anderson and Gabe York gone, along with big man Kaleb Tarczewski, a lot more pressure will be on Trier to be the Wildcats’ leader.

With an excellent recruiting class that includes three five-star recruits, Trier and the Wildcats have a chance to compete for a Pac-12 championship in 2016-17.
