12. Josh Pastner (Georgia Tech)

Career record: 167-73 (69.6%)
Record at Georgia Tech: N/A
NCAA Tournament appearances: 4
Final Fours: 0
National Championships: 0

Josh Pastner got the luxury of starting his head coaching career at Conference USA powerhouse Memphis. John Calipari left the program in great shape when he made the move to Kentucky, and Pastner was immediately handed the reigns.

Pastner’s teams made the NCAA Tournament in four of his first five seasons as head coach. However, they never made it past the tournament’s first weekend, losing in the Round of 64 twice.

Then the wheels really started to fall off.

In his final three seasons at Memphis, the Tigers won 24, 18 and 19 games, respectively. They finished third, fifth and seventh in the conference in those seasons.

Before Memphis could fire him, which seemed extremely likely at the end of this past season, Pastner resigned. He then took the head coaching job at Georgia Tech.

How will Pastner do as head man of a struggling Georgia Tech program? It’s impossible to say for sure, but we’ve seen in other situations just how tough the transition to life in the ACC can be.
