10. Buzz Williams (Virginia Tech)

Career record: 184-123 (59.9%)
Record at Virginia Tech: 31-37 (45.6%)
NCAA Tournament appearances: 5
Final Fours: 0
National Championships: 0

Buzz Williams had only one year of head coaching experience under his belt when he took the job at Marquette. He really couldn’t have fallen into a better situation, taking over what Tom Crean had built before he left for Indiana.

After leading Marquette to the NCAA Tournament in five out of six seasons, Williams left to fill the head coaching vacancy at Virginia Tech.

His first season at Tech ended with a record of 11-22, including a 2-16 mark in ACC play. In year two though, Williams and the Hokies turned things around winning 20 games and finishing the conference season in a tie for seventh.

Williams already has two top-75 recruits from the 2017 class committed. If he can continue to do well on the recruiting trail and keep his current team progressing, the Hokies could be back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.

The Hokies return seven of their top eight scorers from a year ago and expectations are much higher this season than they’ve been in recent history. Multiple publications have put Tech into their preseason top-25 rankings, proving that the Hokies are on the way up.

If Williams can complete the rebuilding process and reach the NCAA Tournament this season, it’ll be one of the biggest and quickest turnarounds we’ve seen in recent college basketball history.
