In an Atlantic 10 basketball game, fans, students and St. Bonaventure team personnel rushed the court after a “buzzer-beating” three-pointer.

It appeared as if St. Bonaventure would propel themselves into the top five in the Atlantic 10 with a win over VUC on Saturday.

The game was incredibly close and frequently in VCU’s favor. However, with two seconds remaining, Matt Mobley drilled a clutch three-pointer, at what seemed like the buzzer, to give St. Bonaventure a 66-65 victory. Fans and students in attendance, as well as members of the St. Bonaventure team, quickly rushed the court, only to find out that 0.4 seconds remained on the clock.

St. Bonaventure was assessed with a technical foul for rushing the court during the game, putting VCU’s JeQuan Lewis at the free throw line. Lewis nailed the free throw, tying the game and sending it into overtime.

From ESPN:

"“The decision to assess a one-shot technical foul for the delay of game at the end of the VCU-St. Bonaventure game was a correct call. The conference office has reviewed the end of the game, and spoken to the Atlantic 10 Coordinator of Officiating, who verified that it was in fact the correct call.”"

VCU led for the entire five minutes of overtime. A pair of free throws from Mo Alie-Cox and Jonathan Williams sealed the victory for the Rams.

Mobley finished with a season-high 34 points for the Bonnies, including the go-ahead three. Alie-Cox posted 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Rams.

With the win, the Rams now own sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 standings. St. Bonaventure could’ve been in the top five in the standings, but instead, drop to 6-4 in conference play.
