Bracketology: Takeaways from the NCAA Tournament top 16
On Saturday afternoon, the NCAA Tournament bracket committee released their top 16 teams for an early Bracketology look.
As shown in below, here is what the current top 16 looks like according to the tournament committee:
Before getting into what the committee made known about their process this year, here is the conference breakdown among the top 16 teams:
ACC: 5 Pac-12: 3
Big 12: 3 Big East: 2
SEC: 2 WCC: 1
With just 29 days remaining until the actual Selection Sunday, there is a lot of time remaining for teams to make their way into the top 16 seeds as well as fall out of the top 16. There are a few things that we learned about the committee from this release of the top 16 though.
Some of the teams currently in the top 16 finish with a very difficult schedule and could easily fall out, leaving room for any team to jump in. Although the term is more commonly associated with bubble teams, even these top four seeded teams need their signature wins to build up a resume for seeding purposes.
Every single one of the teams listed in this top 16 by the committee is a lock for the Big Dance, even while there is still a month left until Selection Sunday. Now, without any further ado, let’s get into what the committee told us about their process for this season.
