The Hokies play great defense and only allow 15.7 free throw attempts per game. It marks as one of the top 25 fewest per game in the country, and in the ACC no team can allow free points to anyone. They record only 16.4 personal fouls per game which ranks #29 in the nation.
No player averages more than 2.5 turnovers per game allowing the team to take advantage of all possessions. Only one player averages more than 2.5 personal fouls per game. Their bench is deep, but when starters can stay out of foul trouble it helps the performance of the whole team.
Additionally, the team averages only 12.1 turnovers per game, a top 75 national statistic. The defense can be hit or miss at times based on who they’re playing. They have limited teams to under 65 points five times this season.
The ACC is an offensively driven league and the Hokies have been able to stay competitive thanks to having great fundamentals. The team’s basketball IQ has been able to take advantage of its opportunities. Additionally, they limit the other team from getting easy points and stay out of foul trouble throughout the game.
