Bracketology: The projected field update through Tuesday’s games

There were four automatic bids awarded last night and that is reflected in today’s Bracketology update. See the new projected bracket.

Five more days of action separate today from Selection Sunday. In that time, major conference tournaments will get into full swing and 27 more automatic bids will be given out.

Before getting into this edition of the projected bracket, here is a summary of what went down yesterday across the country in mid-major tournaments and the start of the ACC Tournament.

Tournament results from Tuesday:

  • Horizon League – Northern Kentucky clinched the automatic bid with a win over Milwaukee.
  • Northeast – Mount St Mary’s clinched the automatic bid with a win over St. Francis (PA).
  • Summit – South Dakota State clinched the automatic bid with a win over Omaha.
  • WCC – Gonzaga clinched the automatic bid with a win over Saint Mary’s.
  • MEAC
    • Bethune-Cookman will face top-seeded NC Central after their victory.
    • South Carolina State beat Florida A&M in overtime and will face Norfolk State next.
  • SWAC
    • Alcorn State defeated Mississippi Valley State to move on.
    • Texas Southern took care of Alabama State and remain the top seed.
    • Southern moved on by knocking off Jackson State.
    • In the lone upset in the SWAC, Grambling defeated Prairie View A&M.
  • ACC
    • Clemson kept their tournament hopes alive by defeating NC State.
    • Wake Forest remains in the projected field by taking care of Boston College.
    • Pittsburgh upset Georgia Tech to put an end to the Yellow Jackets.
  • Big Sky
    • Portland State will get top-seeded North Dakota after their win.
    • Sacramento State and Southern Utah also moved onto the second round.

Games to watch on Wednesday for Bracketology:

  • The Sun Belt, Conference USA, Mountain West, Pac-12, Big Ten, Atlantic 10, Southland, Big East, and SEC all start their first rounds of play on Wednesday.
  • ACC second round action begins, including Syracuse and Clemson needing wins.
  • MEAC quarterfinals are in action. NC Central is the No. 1 seed.
  • The Patriot League final is at 7:30 p.m. ET between Lehigh and Bucknell.
