Iowa State basketball: Ranking possible transfer targets
By Doug Winkey
It’s time to speculate on the future of Iowa State basketball. Iowa State has four open roster spots. Who could the Cyclones target on the transfer trail?
Iowa State basketball was a pioneer when it came to transfers. The Cyclones brought in a number of players from other schools to give them a second chance. Head Coach Steve Prohm has partially shifted towards traditional high school recruits, but the program still hunts talent on the transfer trail to augment its existing talent.
Last year’s crop of transfer Cyclones included Nick Weiler-Babb from Arkansas, Darrell Bowie of Northern Illinois, and Merrill Holden out of Louisiana Tech. None of those guys were huge parts of the rotation, but each added a new dimension to a veteran roster. ISU graduates six contributors this spring, so finding bodies this spring to fill the void is key.
The team has a few big priorities they are trying to satisfy.
Those criteria are helpful when trying to break down hundreds of options on the transfer market. The guys listed here are the ones currently mentioned in connection with Iowa State. This doesn’t even consider junior college options or Mariak Shayok, whose recruitment has been broken down previously. The next Deonte Burton (pictured) could be lurking out on the trail.
Here are five Iowa State targets.
