2. Coppin State over South Carolina – 1997

Coppin State and the MEAC had never won a tournament game before this monumental upset. The Eagles struggled just to make the tournament, playing in a total of six overtime games during the regular season and in the conference championship.

South Carolina entered with a 24-8 record and ended the season with AP ranking of No. 6. The Eagles were a 19-point underdog and a lot of people thought the Gamecocks were a solid Final Four threat. The Gamecocks beat Kentucky twice during the regular season and won the SEC regular season championship, giving them a No. 2 seed in the tournament.

The Eagles entered with a 21-8 record, and the 13-point victory against South Carolina is the largest margin of victory for a No. 2 seed vs. No. 15 seed tournament game. It will likely remain the biggest win in program history.
