NCAA Basketball: Top 20 biggest tournament upsets of all time
16. Butler over Florida – 2011
The Bulldogs cemented their place as one of the greatest Cinderella teams in history by making back-to-back Final Fours. The second trip came after a thrilling overtime game against Florida. It would be a great upset by itself, but the fact that a team from the Horizon League made two Final Fours is crazy.
They entered the game with a record of 27-9 and were co-champions of the Horizon League during the regular season. They had to prove their value throughout the tournament as they were only given a No. 8 seed.
They defeated a major power program that was fresh off of two National Titles a few years before. Florida had a record of 29-7 and marched through the tournament relatively easily as a No. 2 seed.
Butler was able to overcome poor three-point and free throw shooting to make their second consecutive Final Four appearance. They had lost Wooden Player of the Year finalist Gordon Hayward from the year before and still managed to make it back to the Final Four.
Butler managed to erase a nine-point lead with 9:31 to play, and a late 3-pointer helped seal the deal for the Bulldogs as they went on to play in the title game once again. They defeated the Gators, 74-71, in overtime.
