15. Mercer over Duke – 2014

Only two years removed from a first round upset against Lehigh, Duke was unable to avoid another huge upset from No. 15 seeded Mercer.

Duke is one of the most decorated teams in NCAA basketball history. They have five National Titles, 16 Final Four appearances and have produced some great individual players at the NBA level. They weren’t able to play up to their name in the 2014 Round of 64 game against Mercer, though.

The 2013-2014 Blue Devils team consisted of Jabari Parker, Rodney Hood, and were ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll entering the tournament. The teams entered with an identical record of 28-6.

It was the Bears’ first tournament victory in only the third appearance in school history. The Bears went through a 29-year tournament drought and did not waste their first chance back in the tournament.

Duke’s offense went cold late and blew a five-point lead in the last five minutes. The Bears closed out the game on a 20-5 run and shut down the Blue Devils, securing the biggest win in Mercer history.
