Former Oregon Duck Casey Benson made his decision and will be joining Grand Canyon as a graduate transfer.

After playing three seasons in Eugene, Casey Benson decided to transfer from Oregon and play his last season elsewhere.

Benson visited Wisconsin and Butler before making a final trip to Grand Canyon University. After some speculation, Benson has committed to Grand Canyon and will finish up his college career as an Antelope.

Benson, who started for the Ducks as a sophomore, came off the bench last year for the Final Four team. He shot .405 from three and showed his ability to run the point in a competitive offense.

Now, Benson will be joining Dan Majerle’s Grand Canyon Antelopes, where his brother TJ is an assistant coach.

The Antelopes, who are entering their first year of NCAA Postseason eligibility, could use a player like Benson. While the returning talent already makes Grand Canyon a favorite to win the WAC, Benson brings Final Four experience.

Benson’s 4.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.6 steals may not seem like those of a potential starter. However, there is a void that Dan Majerle needs to fill if the Antelopes want to make a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

With the graduation of DeWayne Russell, Grand Canyon needed a new starter at point guard. Benson will have plenty of weapons around him, including Joshua Braun, Keonta Vernon, and Oscar Frayer.

Because Benson is a graduate transfer, he is immediately eligible to play for Grand Canyon. It remains to be seen what he will be able to do with a greater role than he had previously.

The combination of skill, maturity, and postseason experience Benson brings is a great addition to the Grand Canyon Antelopes.
