Indiana Basketball: 5 things to look forward to heading into the 2017-2018 season

3. Defense

Indiana just hasn’t played consistent defense in a long time. Finally, that will change, under a coach that stresses it more than anything else. In the past, IU stressed offense. It doesn’t matter if you score 100 points if the other team scores 101.

In KenPom’s rankings, Dayton ranked 43rd in defensive efficiency, while Indiana ranked 104th. Archie Miller’s teams have typically run the pack line defense made famous by Virginia. The pack line is essentially a sagging man-to-man defense that is used to prevent dribble drives and protect the paint. This type of defense, when executed correctly, is a thing of beauty.
