 2. Recruiting

This won’t come to fruition all at once, but Indiana took some major steps in regaining their throne of dominating the recruiting trails of Indiana.

Back in the day, Indiana used to run the show in the Hoosier state. Everyone wanted to wear the cream and crimson. Nowadays every great player from the state (and trust me, there are many) has been poached by outside schools. Case in point, five players in ESPN’s top-30 call Indiana home, and none of them are playing in the state for their college career.

The trend may start to change. Archie Miller will recruit heavily out of Indiana, but his lesser known staff will be the playmakers here.

Getting assistant coaches like Ed Schilling, Bruiser Flint, and Tom Ostrom was huge for the program.

Ed Schilling came over from UCLA and has been the lead recruiter for the Bruins, landing top-10 recruiting classes as well as 2017 Mr. Indiana Basketball, Kris Wilkes. Schilling has coached high school basketball in Indiana, winning a state title and creating ties to the coaches in the state. Schilling also has developed over 60 players who went on to the NBA through his basketball academy.

To add to this impressive list, Schilling was also a member of the coaching staff with UMass and Memphis under coach John Calipari, so he has learned from the best in recruiting.

Bruiser Flint has 15 years of head coaching experience at Drexel where he was named CAA Coach of the Year four times. He also spent time as an assistant coach with John Calipari at UMass.

Finally, there is Tom Ostrom, who is coming over from Dayton with Archie Miller and spent time as an assistant coach with Florida, helping them reach the 2000 national title game and recruiting the class that ended up winning back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007.

Indiana basketball is in great hands in terms of recruiting. Get excited Hoosiers, this is the staff you all asked for and finally got.
