Iowa State basketball basically has another recruit sewn up with Jeff Beverly. The former UTSA Roadrunner really wants to be a Cyclone.

Thankfully, the program is still a desirable one for some, including San Antonio grad transfer Jeff Beverly. The former Roadrunner is visiting this week and really wants to be a Cyclone. He’ll basically commit to ISU as soon as he hits the ground in Ames.

Coach Steve Prohm could decline to offer the young man a spot, but I can’t imagine he turns down someone with Beverly’s passion.

If Beverly does indeed receive one of ISU’s three remaining scholarships, he’ll have a chance to immediately impact the rotation. He has a rugged 6’6″, 245-pound frame and draws physical comparisons to former Cyclone standout Deonte Burton. Beverly averaged 15.8 points on 40% shooting and grabbed 5.9 rebounds for UTSA this past season. He only shot 23% from deep but was good at getting to the line and hitting foul shots. Beverly shot more attempts (178) than any Cyclone in 2016-2017.

Beverly does not jump off the page, but ISU’s system could be very good for him. He won’t be asked to carry the offense which could improve his overall shooting numbers. He will be asked to grind for rebounds and slash to the hoop for foul shots. At worst, Beverly is a high-energy guy with experience at multiple levels of play.

Next: Zach Lofton leaving Texas Southern

Go ahead and pencil Beverly in for ISU barring any strange interactions during his visit. Iowa State gets a guy who desperately wants to help the program, and Beverly receives one more shot at the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones will have two more scholarships left to find more depth and scoring for next season.
