Nevada Basketball: Cameron Oliver staying in 2017 NBA Draft
By Taylor Sturm
Second leading scorer for the Nevada Wolf Pack Cameron Oliver has hired an agent and will stay in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Last season, the Nevada Wolf Pack finished the year with an impressive 28-7 record, winning the Mountain West Conference and MWC Tournament. Their spectacular season ended with a loss to the Iowa State Cyclone sin the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but something special is brewing in Reno under Eric Musselman.
Unfortunately, one of their star players from last season will not be returning in 2017-18, as ESPN reported that Cameron Oliver has hired agent Todd Ramasar of Life Sports Media & Entertainment and will remain in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Oliver averaged 16 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game over 31.9 minutes per game throughout the season, improving on the numbers from his freshman year. While his 16 points per game scoring output is impressive, it is perhaps more impressive that he had 10 20 or more point games last season.
The 6’8, 225-pound sophomore is expected to be a mid-to-late second round selection. While I doubt he makes a roster immediately, Oliver clearly has NBA-level potential. He could spend some time in the D-League before coming up in a few seasons. Oliver is still young, which should work in his favor moving forward.
Next: Nevada succeeding on the transfer trail
While this news is good for Oliver, Nevada will likely need to step it up next season to make up for his production.
