2017 NBA Draft: 5 best fits for Louisville Cardinals’ Donovan Mitchell
By Taylor Sturm
With the 2017 NBA Draft rapidly approaching, here is a look at the five best fits for the Louisville Cardinals’ Donovan Mitchell.
Donovan Mitchell, the Louisville Cardinals’ leading scorer from the 2016-17 season, decided to hire an agent and remain in the 2017 NBA Draft, meaning that his collegiate career is officially over.
Last season at Louisville, Mitchell averaged 15.6 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game over 32.3 minutes per game. He helped lead the Cardinals to a solid 25-9 record that was good enough for second place in the ACC, but his 19 points against the Michigan Wolverines weren’t enough to lead Louisville into the Sweet 16 during the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
The 6’3, 215-pound shooting guard was relied on for offense throughout the season at Louisville but boasts fantastic defense as well – which led to a deserved spot on the All-ACC First Team. He exploded onto the scene in 2017-18 after being a player who received less than 20 minutes per game in 2016-17 and looks to only get better at the next level.
Mitchell is projected to be a late first-round selection, but it would not be surprising at all if a team drafted him in the mid-first round. He has a game that will translate well across the NBA, and many teams will be willing to draft him and either place him on the bench or send him to the D-League for a season.
However, which NBA teams will be the best fit for Mitchell?
Here are the five teams that are the best fits for Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell.
