Tennessee Basketball: Junior college product Chris Darrington has decided on the Volunteers over Memphis, Pitt, and Toledo.

2017 three-star point guard Chris Darrington has committed to Tennessee, he announced Thursday. The Volunteers landed Darrington over Memphis, Pitt, and Toledo. The Vincennes University product is the 13th-best JUCO player in the nation, according to 247Sports.

“[Tennessee is] the best position for me to succeed,” Darrington told Busting Brackets. He added that he connected well with the coaching staff in Knoxville.

Darrington earned junior college first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors last season. He averaged 20.7 points and 5.1 assists while leading Vincennes to a Division XVI Championship. Darrington noted that he hopes to carry his junior college success over to Tennessee.

The Indiana native mentioned that perhaps the most impressive aspect of his game is his ability to get his teammates involved. He embraces the role of being a true point guard while being an elite scorer. Additionally, Darrington stated his selflessness often creates the right basketball play.

Darrington told Busting Brackets he hopes the Volunteers can succeed in a rising SEC league. With three SEC programs in this year’s Elite Eight, the conference is beginning to establish themselves as a dominant league in the foreseeable future. Darrington added that he hopes Tennessee can earn an NCAA Tournament bid during his stint in Knoxville. Rick Barnes’ group did have a rather disappointing season this year, finishing at 16-16. However, nine of Tennessee’s top 11 scorers from last season were underclassmen, so the future is certainly promising for the Vols.

Darrington joins four-star small forward Yves Pons, three-star center Zach Kent, and three-star power forward Derrick Walker as the quartet of incoming freshmen to Knoxville next fall.
