Eric Musselman gets new contract that lasts through 2021-22 season after successful year with NCAA Tournament appearance

No doubt about it, the Nevada Wolf Pack have a great thing going with head coach Eric Musselman. The university proved it this week with a reward.

The University of Nevada announced Tuesday Musselman signed a five-year contract extension to continue coaching the program.

Musselman’s new contract allows him to coach the Wolf Pack through the 2021-22 season.

He was a candidate for the California job but opted not to proceed further, according to CBS Sports.

It makes sense for Nevada to hold onto Musselman. He’s done an outstanding job rebuilding the program.

With Nevada winning the conference this season, there’s thought that there could be a resurgence of the Mountain West Conference.

Musselman is one of the top coaches in the Mountain West, leading Nevada to a 52-21 record in two seasons.

In his second season, Musselman not only helped the Wolf Pack win the MWC, he guided them to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.

One challenge Musselman has faced this offseason is the announcement of his second leading scorer, Cameron Oliver, declaring for the draft.

However, Nevada has made some solid pickups this offseason with the addition of several transfers, including Rice forward Marquez Letcher-Ellis.

In the NCAA Tournament, Nevada lost 84-73 in the first round to Iowa State.

Even with the loss, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the Wolf Pack. The quick turnaround brings the optimism.

It’s possible that Nevada hasn’t reached its peak. They seem to be on the right track and could make noise for years to come.

Musselman has a chance to really build Nevada into a powerful program.

With the new contract, he’ll get that chance. However, will tell if Musselman and Nevada continue their climb.
