Omer Yurtseven announced that he would forgo the 2017 NBA Draft and return to play for the NC State Wolfpack for the 2017-18 season.
The most disappointing team in college basketball last season might have received some of the best news of any team in the country, as Omer Yurtseven announced he would return to play for the NC State Wolfpack another season.
A 7’0, 240-pound center out of Istanbul, Turkey, Yurtseven averaged 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game over 18.9 minutes per game last season for the Wolfpack. NC State went 15-17 overall and 4-14 in ACC play despite an amazing team on paper and will fully believe that they should rebound next season.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to me if this team finishes much closer to 20 wins than they did this season. Dennis Smith might be gone, but there is still talent all across this roster – Yurtseven’s return is a huge part of that.
Expect Yurtseven to see more playing time this season, improve on his numbers, and be able to work his way into the NBA discussion a bit more heading into the 2018 NBA Draft. His size alone is enough for any NBA team to at least give him a shot at the next level, but he needs more time to develop.

It’s rare that a player recognizes that they need a bit more time in school before going to the next level, and Yurtseven’s decision helps both himself and NC State more than I think even he realizes.
