The SMU Mustangs desperately needed a post heading into the 2017-18 season and may have found one in Georgetown Hoyas’ graduate transfer Akoy Agau.
The SMU Mustangs received great news this week, as Georgetown Hoyas’ transfer Akoy Agau announced he would be taking his talents to Dallas.

A 6’8, 235-pound forward out of Omaha, Nebraska, Agau was heavily recruited out of high school and chose to go to the Louisville Cardinals. After two seasons in Louisville, he transferred to Georgetown, where he sat out the required year between transferring. Because he is a graduate transfer, Agau will be able to start immediately for SMU.
The former Hoya averaged 4.5 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and nearly a block and an assist per game despite just averaging 15 minutes per game. He is a college basketball veteran and should make a big impact in both leadership and experience for the Mustangs.
Oh, and Agau is likely to start, as well.
Akoy Agau is a significant pick up for an SMU squad desperately needed a post presence. Will be a starter for Ponies next season up front.

Wichita State should be the favorite to win the AAC next season, but SMU and the Cincinnati Bearcats are close behind.

The Mustangs might have just been handed what it takes to jump the Shockers as the preseason favorite with the addition of Agau — but there is still a lot of time left before the season begins.
