The Michigan Wolverines have offered a scholarship to rising senior Damezi Anderson Jr.

Damezi Anderson Jr., a 2018 four-star prospect, took an unofficial trip to Ann Arbor to visit with Michigan Wolverines and left with a scholarship offer from coach John Beilein per MLive. The 6-7 wing from is from South  Bend, Indiana.

Anderson is currently playing for Meanstreats in the prestigious Nike EYBL. In 16 EYBL games, Anderson is averaging 13.8 points along with 4.6 rebounds. He is also shooting 46.2% from the field.

Anderson’s best attribute is his ability to score. He is excellent in transition, but he is also a very good three-point shooter. Additionally, he has the ability to put the ball in the basket off the dribble.

Here is what Sam Vecenie of the Sporting News had to say following observing Anderson in the EYBL Los Angeles tournament.

"“[Anderson] is athletic and can hit shots from deep at a high level already, both on the move and at a standstill… [He] should be a high-major player.”"

Anderson was selected as an Indiana All-Star this past high school season after averaging 24 points a game at Riley High.

Purdue is considered the favorite for Anderson’s service as the Boilermakers have been on his recruiting trail the longest. But the Wolverines could really use the big, versatile wing.

Anderson also has offers from UConn and DePaul. Dayton, Xavier, and Creighton have reportedly shown interest as well.

Looking ahead to the future, Michigan appears pretty set at point guard and in the backcourt overall. As it stands right now, the Wolverines will have veterans Xavier Simpson, Charles Mathews and Ibi Wilson as part of their backcourt in 2018-19. Simpson, a four-star recruit, did a decent job backing up star Derrick Walton at the point last year as a freshman. Matthews and Wilson are both shooting guards. Matthews, who transferred from Kentucky, sat out the season in 2016-17, while Wilson saw sparse action as a freshman.

Michigan’s three-man 2017 recruiting class includes two guards, Jordan Poole and Eli Brooks. Poole is a four-star shooting guard and Brooks is a three-star point guard.  The Wolverines also have a commitment from 2018 four-star point guard David Dejulius.

On the other hand, the Wolverines may have to totally overhaul its wing and front court positions. Swing-men Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Duncan Robinson will graduate this year.

Michigan’s 2018 front court, would include Moe Wagner, Austin Davis, John Teske along with 2017 incoming freshman  Isaiah Livers and Davis redshirted last season while Teske played just 61 minutes. Livers is a four-star stretch four.
