NCAA Basketball Transfer News: Quincy McKnight, Tanveer Bhullar, and Kameron Rooks
Former Sacred Heart guard Quincy McKnight has found a landing spot.
Things seem to be going Seton Hall’s way in the last couple of weeks. Less than two weeks after star Angel Delgado withdraw from the NBA draft, the Hall got another gift with transfer Quincy McKnight choosing the Pirates on June 2 as first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.
McKnight, who is transferring from Sacred Heart, is an electrifying scorer. The 6’3 guard averaged 18.9 points, 4.9 rebound, and 3.0 assists a game as a sophomore. He tallied 25 or more points nine times, which included a career-high 44 points against Bryant on Jan. 14. McKnight must sit out the 2017-18 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules but will have two years of eligibility left.
McKnight chose Seton Hall over Penn State, Nevada, and Santa Clara. The 2016-17 All-NEC First Team selection reportedly made up his mind on Thursday.
“I just decided there was a track record at Seton Hall, and for what they do for their players after college … they help them succeed,” McKnight said.
The Bridgeport, Connecticut, native was a two-star recruit coming out of high school. He is a solid ball-handler who thrives in transition and getting into the lane. McKnight also gets to the free throw lane a ton. Turnovers are his Achilles heel, however.
Seton Hall went 21-12 to give them back-to-back 20 victory seasons for the first time since the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. The Pirates finished fifth in the Big East (10-8) and reached the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season. The Hall lost 77-71 to Arkansas in the first round.
The Pirates return their top four scorers from last season. Senior guard Khadeen Carrington leads the returnees with 17.1 points a game and 1.9 triples as he shot 38.2% from beyond the arc. Senior forward Desi Rodriguez was second the team in scoring (15.7), second in three-point shooting (35.3%) as well as third in rebounding (5.2). Rodriguez posted a double-double for the season with 15.2 points and 13.1 boards a game. Overall, the Hall brings back seven letter winners which accounted for 90.5% of its scoring and 90.0% of it rebounding totals from a year ago.
Coach Kevin Willard has also brought in a five-man recruiting class. Four-star shooting guard Myles Cale is the highest rated player in the class. The other recruits are three-star point guard Jordan Walker, three-star Sandro Mamukelashvili, two-star Darnell Brodie, and 7’0 juco transfer Romaro Gill.
