USC Basketball: What to expect from the 2017 recruiting class
By Stuart Gill
Jordan Usher
Most of the attention is on O’Bannon, but Jordan Usher is a huge acquisition for USC. The shooting guard played for Wheeler high school in Marietta, Georgia, where he earned offers from the likes of Texas, Arizona State, and Mississippi State and scraped into the ESPN Top-100 at No. 98.
His speed and leaping abilities set him apart from other guards in the class. He is nearly unstoppable on the way to the rim and is able to make blocks and get rebounds that other guards his size simply can’t. His outside shooting is a bit of a work-in-progress, but he has what it takes to succeed in the Pac-12.
With so many older guards on the roster, it may be hard for Usher to see meaningful minutes as a freshman, but that is a good thing. He’s a prospect that could become a difference-maker if he is able to develop his scoring abilities in the right way. If he is taken more seriously as a shooter, for instance, he will have more opportunities to get to the rim.
