North Carolina Basketball: Who will the Tar Heels play in the PK80 Tournament?
By Taylor Sturm
Looking to find out who the North Carolina Tar Heels will play in the PK80 Tournament? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.
Last season the North Carolina Tar Heels finished first in the ACC regular season standings, earned a No. 1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, and, eventually, won the National Title.
Their impressive 33-7 record was a phenomenal achievement, but winning the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 had to feel really good for both the fan base and Head Coach Roy Williams.
This season, North Carolina will lose some of their talent from the previous season but should still be more than prepared to make a run at both the ACC title and the NCAA Tournament title. The ACC will likely be the most competitive conference in the country – at least at the top – and UNC has a lot of work to do even with all the talent on their roster.
North Carolina will, however, get a chance to test that talent against some of the other top programs in the country, as they head off to the Phil Knight Invitational in November.
The Tar Heels will compete in the “Victory Bracket,” facing the Portland Pilots in Session 1 at Moda Center on November 23 and then, based on results, facing either the Arkansas Razorbacks or Oklahoma Sooners in Session 6 on November 24.
The rest of the Victory Bracket includes the Georgetown Hoyas, Michigan State Spartans, UConn Huskies, and Oregon Ducks, so we’re sure to see some pretty exciting match-ups down the road in the tournament.
North Carolina should be favored to win the Victory Bracket alongside Michigan State.
