Thad Matta has been ousted as the Head Coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, but who should take his place?

Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes finished the year with a dismal 17-15 record that saw them finish No. 10 in the Big Ten and miss out on postseason play.

After going to the NCAA Tournament every season from 2009-2015, the Buckeyes have now gone back-to-back seasons without a trip to the Big Dance. In fact, the 2016-17 season was the first time in Matta’s coaching tenure with Ohio State that the team did not reach 20 wins on the season.

Apparently, it seems that OSU has had enough of recent mediocrity, as news broke today that the Buckeyes would be parting ways with Head Coach Thad Matta.

While they are saying the departure is mutual, it seems like this decision stems from a mixture of results and several recruiting failures.

Matta will eventually coach somewhere else, but it was time for both him and the university to move on — even if it wasn’t mutual.

Ohio State is a good school with a great college basketball program, so we should expect the Buckeyes to end up with a solid hire.

It should be noted that a lot of people are throwing out former-college-now-NBA coach names in the coaching hunt, but I only included one NBA coach on this list — and it’s not Billy Donovan.

Here are five people who could replace Thad Matta at Ohio State.
