Butler Basketball: Five potential replacements for Chris Holtmann
Micah Shrewsberry
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Shrewsberry has been tied to Indiana for much of his career and life. He played college basketball at Hanover before starting his coaching career. At 40 years old, he has spent time at Butler (2008-2011) and Purdue (2011-2013) as an assistant coach, showing his loyalty to the state. After finishing up at Purdue, he moved to be an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics. And, although this is not in the state, he is under the careful watch of Celtics’ coach Brad Stevens, who you might remember took Butler to back-to-back Final Fours.
The major positive with Shrewsberry is that he will bring a sense of familiarity to the program and will likely have the endorsement of Butler celebrity Brad Stevens. He is also a fairly young candidate at 40 years of age. He does, however, lack experience as a head coach and has spent much of his career as an assistant.
