Arizona Basketball: Five-star recruit Jahvon Quinerly plans to visit Wildcats at the end of June
Arizona basketball is among seven teams on five-star recruit Jahvon Quinerly’s final college list. He will officially visit the Wildcats June 24-26.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello recently tweeted that 2018 five-star prospect Jahvon Quinerly will take his first official college visit when he makes a trip out west to check out the Arizona Wildcats from June 24-26.
Quinerly, ranked as the 21st best prospect in the class by ESPN, is a consensus top-10 point guard. The 6’1″, 160-pounder has improved in each of his three seasons at Hudson Catholic (N.J.). He produced five double-doubles last season, which is four more than he had in his first two high school campaigns.
Quinerly is a scorer who has the ability to make plays for himself and others. He likes to get to the basket though he is not an explosive athlete and generally plays below the rim. Quinerly is a good finisher as he has a soft touch. However, he does need to become more consistent from the perimeter.
Quinerly averaged 20.4 points, 5.3 assists along with 3.1 rebounds in 2016-17. He shot 56% from the floor, 44% from beyond the arc and 73% from the charity stripe.
An ESPN Insider had this to say about the Jersey City native:
"“He’s highly skilled with an instinctive feel for the game. There isn’t much he can’t do with the ball in his hands and he’s exceptionally smooth while doing it. He’s gifted both physically and mentally with the basketball. He has outstanding hands and is virtually ambidextrous as a ball-handler and passer, but he also has natural poise and presence with the ball in his hands along with the acumen to read opposing defenses.”"
Arizona head coach Sean Miller is a tremendous recruiter so it is no surprise that the Wildcats are in the mix for Quinerly. However, there is a question at this point whether Quinerly fits in with the Wildcats.
Arizona will lose senior backup point guard Jackson Parker-Cartwright along with graduate student Talbott Denny. There is also a chance that junior Allonzo Trier and sophomore Rawle Alkins will enter the NBA draft next year. Both tested the draft waters this offseason.
Arizona has brought in four-star shooting guard Brandon Robinson, four-star Alex Barcello, and four-star wing Emmanuel Akot as part of their five-man 2017 recruiting class. Miller also has received a verbal commitment from 2018 five-star point guard Brandon Williams. In addition, the Wildcats are in contention for four-star point guard Devon Dotson.

Quinerly cut down his college choice list to seven on May 15. In addition to Arizona, Kansas, Seton Hall, Stanford, UCLA, Villanova, and Virginia is on his list. For what it worth, Villanova and Virginia are the favorites for Quinerly’s services per 247 sports. Following the recruitment of this top point guard in the country will be an interesting development over the next few months.
