Detroit Pistons

Record in 2016-17: 37-45 (10th in the Eastern Conference)

Draft picks: 12th overall

Jonathan Givony Projections: Luke Kennard (#12)

Lukas Harkins Projections: Zach Collins (#12)

Draft Outlook: The Pistons are an interesting case in terms of their future. Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson were once regarded as building pieces for a franchise, but now the team is facing questions surrounding them. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Tobias Harris seem like two key pieces for the team moving forward, but they will also need to capitalize on this first round pick and have it turn it into a starter soon. Due to their relative unease as a franchise, a “Best Player Available” approach could easily be utilized in order to secure a prospect who can help right away and develop into a possible star. The Pistons are looking to find an identity and hopefully get back in the Playoffs, as the bottom end of the Eastern Conference playoffs could be relatively open, as it has been the past few seasons.

#12 overall: SG Luke Kennard, Duke

Two of the best shooters in the draft go back-to-back with Monk and Kennard. The Pistons were looking to add more shooting, and Kennard definitely does that. He is not the athlete that Monk is, but he plays well within an offense and is excellent both in catch-and-shoot as well as the pick-and-roll. His floor seems to be relatively high if he fits in immediately, but his ceiling is somewhat limited due to his lack of overall quickness. Grade: B-.
