2017 NBA Draft: Live analysis and tracking rumors, picks, trades for the NBA Draft
Miami Heat
Record in 2016-17: 41-41 (T-8th in the Eastern Conference)
Draft picks: 14th overall
Jonathan Givony Projections: Justin Jackson (#14)
Lukas Harkins Projections: OG Anunoby (#14)
Draft Outlook: Even though Dwyane Wade led for the Chicago Bulls last offseason, the Miami Heat were very close to making the playoffs thanks to an incredibly successful second half of the season. Goran Dragic had yet another solid season, and Hassan Whiteside was an imposing defender on the inside. As far as Dion Waiters is concerned, he has become a much better player with the Heat and he will be looking to take another step forward as next season gets underway, if he is to stay with the team. The Heat hold the last pick in the lottery and are looking to add another wing player that can help them succeed both right away and in the future.
#14 overall: C Bam Adebayo, Kentucky
Many people did not expect Adebayo go this early in the draft, but yet, the Heat took a shot on him. They already have Hassan Whiteside on the roster, and Bam fits in as a backup solidly. He runs the floor well and can swat shots on the defensive end. Adebayo is still very raw, but developing behind Whiteside will help his progression defensively. Grade: B-.
