Former Tennessee State Tigers’ guard Tahjere McCall is headed off to the NBA and will participate in the 2017 NBA Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Tennessee State Tigers have had an up and down past few seasons in the OVC but are continuing to get better as a team and program.

Many will not be familiar with Tigers’ guard Tahjere McCall or what he has accomplished over the past two seasons with TSU — but will be soon. McCall will, however, be given an opportunity to put those skills to the test at the next level, as he has been selected to participate in the 2017 NBA Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets.

McCall will be given an opportunity to put those skills to the test at the next level, as he has been selected to participate in the 2017 NBA Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets.

Last season, McCall averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.8 steals per game over 32.1 minutes per game. These numbers are nothing short of phenomenal with the only negative being that they were in the OVC.

McCall faces an uphill battle to make an NBA roster. A slightly older player due to his transfer from Niagara, McCall is far more likely to earn a trip to the G-League rather than overseas with a successful performance in the Vegas Summer League.

However, it should be noted that the Nets are currently rebuilding with their only true “stars” in D’Angelo Russell and newcomer Jarrett Allen. Sure, Caris LeVert and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson are slowly coming into their own, but there are roster spots up for grabs and McCall could find himself earning one. His collegiate stats were extremely impressive and had to be the reason for his well-deserved call-up.

Either way, McCall has had a great career with the Tigers and deserves to play on this stage.
