Former Eastern Washington Eagles’ forward Jacob Wiley will play in the Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets. Do not be surprised if he makes the roster.

The Brooklyn Nets are in a bad place in terms of overall talent, with young, inconsistent players the core of the franchise. D’Angelo Russell should take the reins next season, but apart from young players like Jarrett Allen, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and Caris LeVert, no other players are really ready to become the next big thing for the team.

D’Angelo Russell should take the reins next season, but, apart from young players like Jarrett Allen, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and Caris LeVert, no other players are really ready to become the next big thing for the team.

That being said, this means that the Summer League is going to provide ample opportunity for several undrafted free agents to make it with the team in the offseason. One of these players is Jacob Wiley out of Eastern Washington who, although you may have never heard of him, looks more than ready to shine at the next level.

All Wiley does is score, as evidenced by the 20.4 points per game he averaged with the Eagles. He averaged 9.1 rebounds as well, but the scoring is what is so impressive while sharing the ball on a team with a player like Bogdan Bliznyuk, who also averaged over 20 points per game.

The 6’7, 220-pound forward faces an uphill battle to make the opening day roster, but do not be surprised to see this player alternate between the G-League and the Nets’ active roster all season long.

Next season could be really bad for Brooklyn, and the Nets need all the help they can get — Wiley could be one of the main beneficiaries of their struggles.
