Michigan Basketball: Where will former Wolverines play in the 2017 NBA Summer League?
By Taylor Sturm
Wondering where your favorite Michigan Wolverines’ play in the 2017 NBA Summer League? We’ve got you covered.
Last season, the Michigan Wolverines finished with a solid 26-12 record while competing in one of the more cluttered conferences when it comes to talent, the Big Ten.
Because of this, the Wolverines were rewarded with a trip to the 2017 NCAA Tournament — but not before they earned an automatic qualifying berth by winning the Big Ten Tournament. Once into the Big Dance, Michigan defeated two fantastic teams, the No. 10 seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys and the No. 2 seeded Louisville Cardinals, by less than two possessions before falling to the No. 3 seeded Oregon Ducks in the Sweet 16 by just one point.

Heading into next season, Michigan’s roster will look extremely different due to the departure of several top players. Three of these will compete in the 2017 NBA Summer League, however.
However, three of these departures will compete in the 2017 NBA Summer League.
Zak Irvin – Miami Heat
Irvin went undrafted but will have a real shot at making an NBA roster down the road. While I think he performs well in the Vegas Summer League for the Miami Heat and finds himself in the G-League for the majority of the year, he has the type of skill set that could lead to him being called up sooner rather than later.
D.J. Wilson – Milwaukee Bucks
Picked at No. 17 by the Milwaukee Bucks, Wilson is headed to a team where he won’t even have to be the fourth most important player, meaning that he will have time to develop his game while playing a key role. The Bucks boast talent all over the court and the 2017 Vegas Summer League should be Wilson’s chance to prove he deserves to see more of the ball his rookie season.
Derrick Walton Jr. – Orlando Magic
Walton averaged 15.5 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 5.0 assists per game last season with the Wolverines and should bring that type of all-around game to the Orlando Summer League with him. The team he will play for, the Orlando Magic, need all the help they can get, so Walton has a legitimate chance at making the roster if he plays well.
Next: How D.J. Wilson will fit with the Milwaukee Bucks
All of these former Michigan players have a great opportunity to make it at the next level, but can they – and will they – take it?
