A consensus top-100 recruit, small forward Brandon Johns announced his intentions to play for Michigan basketball over several other schools.

As listed by 247 Sports, small forward Brandon Johns is the top recruit from Michigan in the class of 2018. Listed at 6’8″, 204 pounds, he has great size for the collegiate forward position and is a great recruit for the Michigan Wolverines.

Johns has the ability to shoot the three and with his size, he can easily get position in the lane to come down with crucial rebounds. His all-around game is what makes him such a highly-touted recruit. Johns, who is from East Lansing, chose Michigan over Michigan State, among other schools.

He had offers from some of the best schools in the country, including Indiana, Purdue, Texas, Xavier, Creighton, Iowa, and many more. Johns is a solid athlete for his size and uses that to run the floor in transition and to rise up for rebounds and blocked shots.

After head coach John Beilein lost two of his assistant coaches to Butler and Northwestern, he was able to secure a top-flight recruit from in-state. Many top recruits from Michigan have either left the state or joined Tom Izzo and the Spartans at Michigan State recently, so this is a major acquisition for Beilein and the Wolverines.

David DeJulius, a three-star recruit from Detroit (another in-state recruit) according to 247 Sports, is the other member of the 2018 recruiting class for Michigan so far.

Being able to secure a recruit like this is a major get for Michigan. There is still plenty of time to make additions, but Brandon Johns is the kind of recruit that can turn a good recruiting class into a great one. Michigan has a history of being a very good program in the Big Ten, and Johns will hopefully continue to carry that legacy.
