Creighton Basketball: Ian Steere commits to Bluejays
Greg McDermott landed his second class of 2018 recruit in four-star Ian Steere on Thursday.
2018 four-star power forward Ian Steere announced a commitment to Greg McDermott and Creighton on Thursday. The Bluejays were selected over Louisville, NC State, and others.
Steere is ranked as the No. 192 rising senior in the nation, according to 247Sports. He is regarded as one of North Carolina’s top 2018 prospects.
The Wesleyan Christian native led the Trojans to an NCISAA 3A title game, where Wesleyan Christian fell to Greensboro Day by just three points. His success in high school quickly attracted the eye of schools from all across the country and eventually led to him being offered a scholarship by the Bluejays.
Overtime took an in-depth look at Steere’s abilities on the floor, noting him as a rim-protector, post technician, and for his highlight-reel dunks. “He is the critical rim protector that every team needs to defend their basket… Any defender in his path might as well move out of the way [when Steere is driving to the basket] because there is no way that you can stop Steere when he’s airborne,” Overtime stated in a scouting report.
Steere joins unranked small forward Christian Bishop as the pair of class of 2018 prospects committed to Creighton. The Bluejays currently have the fourth-best 2018 recruiting class in the Big East, giving them an edge heading into a season from now.

Coming off of four consecutive years where Creighton was among the Big East’s six best recruiting classes, expectations are high for Greg McDermott’s work on the recruiting trail. Ever since 2014, Creighton has increasingly brought in a better recruiting class as it continues to establish itself as a recruiting powerhouse in the Big East.
