DePaul Basketball: Blue Demons snag Illinois transfer Jalen Coleman-Lands
By Taylor Sturm
Former Illinois Fighting Illini player Jalen Coleman-Lands has transferred to the DePaul Blue Demons. He will sit out next season before being eligible for two more seasons.
One of the more underrated transfers this season, Jalen Coleman-Lands played a little over 20 minutes per game for the Illinois Fighting Illini during his first two years there.
Last season, the 6’3, 160-pound guard was a part of a Fighting Illini squad that went 20-15, earning a trip to the NIT. Coleman-Lands averaged eight points a game while shooting just over five threes per game, making his mark as a high-volume three-point shooter who went 38% from behind the arc.
DePaul, on the other hand, went 9-23, finishing last in the Big East. They could use all the help they can get from whatever source will give it, and the lure of likely gaining heavy playing time probably led to Coleman-Lands’ decision to go there.
Coleman-Lands will have to sit out next season for the Blue Demons, but he is a young player who will have two years of eligibility left once he sits out the required year by the NCAA. He will likely use this season as a way to hone his game while getting acclimated to a new system with DePaul.

This season will likely be a rough one for the Blue Demons, as most of the Big East continues to take steps forward while DePaul seemingly stalls. However, the addition of Coleman-Lands is a look towards the future – one that continues to get a little better for DePaul.
