2018 four-star center Trevion Williams announced he committed to Purdue on Thursday.

Trevion Williams, a Michigan native, is ranked as the No. 100 rising senior in the country, according to 247Sports. Illinois, Michigan State, and others were involved for the big man.

At 6’8″ and 250 pounds, Williams has a very similar build to recent Purdue product Caleb Swanigan.

“They really took care of Caleb Swanigan and throughout the recruiting process, they compared me to him a lot. It feels good to know they believe in me like that to compare me to a guy who is in the NBA now,” Williams told Rivals.com. While Williams may resemble similar physical build to Swanigan, he plays rather different than Swanigan on the court. Additionally, Williams won’t step on campus and immediately become a double-double machine either, like the 5-star recruit Swanigan was.

Considering his immense size, Williams is undoubtedly a dominating presence on the interior. He averaged 7.8 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring.

Williams is the first 2018 pledge for Matt Painter and the Boilermakers, who now have the No. 28 2018 recruiting class in the nation. After finishing with the Big Ten’s best 2017 recruiting class, led by four-star guard Nojel Eastern, Painter and his staff look to continue to recruit prospects to their talented roster.

Looking down the road, Purdue’s 2018 recruiting class appears to be in relatively good shape at the moment. Four-star shooting guard Eric Hunter recently named six leaders, with Purdue among the finalists. Plenty of other rising seniors, including four-star small forward Damezi Anderson and three-star center Emmanuel Dowuona, have shown interest in the Boilermakers as well.
