Ohio State Basketball: Torrence Watson commits to Buckeyes
Four-star shooting guard Torrence Watson announced via Twitter that he has committed to Ohio State. This is a major recruit for new coach Chris Holtmann.
2018 four-star shooting guard Torrence Watson committed to Ohio State on Monday, according to his Twitter page. Butler, Creighton, Notre Dame, and several others were involved for the 6’5″ shooting guard. Watson is the #100 class of 2018 prospect, according to 247Sports. He is the #3 player in the state of Missouri.
ESPN, who ranks Watson as the #56 prospect in the class of 2018, noted that Watson has a fantastic ability to finish at the rim. He has a decent jump shot that extends slightly beyond the arc. Moreover, the Whitfield School product is a terrific defender, one who can defend multiple positions. However, a lack of an opposite hand and inconsistent shooting are two concerns that ESPN observed.
While being the lone 2018 commit for Ohio State, Watson is more evidence that new head coach Chris Holtmann may be building a recruiting powerhouse in Columbus. Holtmann, despite being named the Buckeyes’ new head coach on June 9, was able to grab two 2017 recruits in the span of a month. Four-star small forward Kyle Young and four-star small forward Musa Jallow have both pledged to Ohio State within the past month. Although only having three commitments, Ohio State was able to secure the Big Ten’s top 2017 recruiting class.

Holtmann’s work on the recruiting trail for the 2018 class is certainly not over with. The Buckeyes are currently involved with numerous high-level prospects. Five-star point guard Darius Garland, four-star combo guard Dwayne Cohill, four-star small forward Jerome Hunter, four-star point guard Elijah Weaver and plenty of other highly-touted talents are interested in Ohio State.
