Outlook

The 2017 recruiting class for the Vols is clearly one for the now and not one for the later. Rick Barnes and Tennessee clearly believe that they have a solid squad that can make a run to the NCAA Tournament.

Based on last season’s results, that is true. This Tennessee roster is littered with young talent – none of whom are likely to go to the NBA Draft anytime soon and are all ready to take a step forward next season.

What this Vols’ squad was missing was a bit of veteran and capable depth, and that is exactly what they are getting in this recruiting class, along with some longer-term projects. Walker is the clear “will make an immediate impact from day one” player, and I expect to see a lot of him this season.

This Tennessee team has what it takes to be a top five team in the SEC, as well as one of the worst teams in the SEC. However, I, like many other Vols’ fans, have faith in Barnes and his ability to keep a team meeting or exceeding expectation year in and year out.

Expect a trip to the 2018 NCAA Tournament from this squad, and the new additions will be a big part of that.
