Georgetown Basketball: Former Ole Miss commit Jamarko Pickett to Hoyas
By Taylor Sturm
Former Ole Miss Rebels recruit Jamarko Pickett has decided to play college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas.
The Georgetown Hoyas brought in a new head coach in former NBA and Georgetown star Patrick Ewing, and it is already paying dividends on the recruiting trail.
Class of 2017 recruit Jamarko Pickett, who had committed to the Ole Miss Rebels, never showed up on campus in Oxford and has decided to attend Georgetown instead.
After his decision to forgo his commitment to the Rebels, Pickett was also heavily recruited by the Maryland Terrapins. The Hoyas will be getting a four-star, top 100 small forward who is listed as 6’9 and 215 pounds.
Like I said in my article that broke down the top offseason coaching changed (which you can read here), Ewing’s arrival at Georgetown will immediately have an impact on the recruiting end. Basketball coaching experience does not matter when a big-time NBA player heads to coach at the college level because they will get top recruits who want to find success at the next level.
Many top recruits come to college with the expectation that they will play professionally. Players look at coaches like Ewing and understand that he knows what it takes to succeed at the next level. It also helps that Georgetown is a historically good college basketball program, even if they have not had success as of late.

Whether this season is a bust or a success does not matter. The Hoyas are on the right path, and, if Ewing can continue to snag recruits like Pickett, the future is bright for Georgetown.
