The No. 1 college basketball player in the Class of 2019, R.J. Barrett, has decided to reclassify to join the Class of 2018.

With his decision to reclassify to the Class of 2018, R.J. Barrett is quickly flying up the recruiting rankings. The 6’6, 180-pound small forward from Montverde Academy in Florida is one of the most highly coveted, highly skilled recruits in college basketball and should be the talk of the recruiting world leading up to his commitment.

Barrett was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2019 by Rivals and No. 3 in the 247 Sports Composite. With his decision to reclassify to the Class of 2018, Barrett is tagged by many to become the No. 2 overall recruit behind Marvin Bagley.

Scout has him listed as the No. 26 player in the Class of 2018, which is odd. Maybe it’s a mistake. I expect that to change, soon, however, as rankings will quickly begin to reflect Barrett’s decision to reclassify.

Interestingly enough, most recruiting sites have Barrett leaning towards choosing to play his college ball Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils – the same team many have picked to snag a commitment by Bagley if he decides to remain in the Class of 2018. Whether this is related or Duke just happens to be recruiting these two players heavily remains to be seen, but, if they were to team up, it would make the Blue Devils the most fun team to watch in college basketball.

Keep an eye out for more news on Barrett, because his commitment to a school could come sooner rather than later.
